from the {Little Barn Kitchen}

 a peek at what I've been cooking and we've been eating/drinking...
{Main Meals}
(local) pork roast (slow cooked in the crockpot)
and (local) greens served over mashed (local) potatoes
(homegrown) grilled chicken
This was amazing!

When we had our last round of chickens processed, we had 5 chickens cut up into pieces.
(It costs more to cut the birds into pieces.) One night, it was getting late and I still needed to cook dinner. It was so nice to quickly thaw and cook some chicken breasts (instead of a whole chicken) for dinner. These are the breasts from two chickens which varied in size significantly.

jalepeno sheep's milk cheese grits in a (local) tomato
I did not want this meal to end.

(homegrown) chicken (gluten free) noodle soup with cornbread
I made borscht using (local) cabbage and beets, and (homegrown) tomatoes
and I was the only one in the family that liked it.

(local) pumpkin, potatoes, (local) sausage, and (local) kale soup
with a drizzle of heavy cream
 rice, (homegrown) chicken broth, (local) swiss chard,
green onions, (homegrown) poached egg, and sriracha

 {Sweets}
gluten free pumpkin filled pie pockets
(I used Bob's Red Mill gluten free pie pastry mix.)

salsa
(recipe from Food in Jars)

(homegrown) sweet pickles
chicken broth
I make broth in the crock pot after every (homegrown) chicken I cook.
I pressure can it so I can use the broth in recipes later or so we can pop open a jar if we are sick.

Note:
Lately, we have been eating out just as much as I cook,
because we've been busy or away from home or because I just don't want to cook another thing.
It happens.
Just want to keep it real.

a peek at what I've been cooking and we've been eating/drinking...

 {Drinks}
I made my first hot toddy when I had an incredibly sore throat one day.
This wasn't pleasant to drink, but it did help with the sore throat.
bourbon, lemon, our own honey, and water

{Main Meals}
I harvested a lot of garlic scapes recently.
Most of these scapes were cut up and added to the freezer.
But, I also made garlic scape pesto.

The turnips have also been plentiful.
So I combined the pesto with the turnip greens on a pizza.
gluten free garlic scape pesto pizza with (local) sausage,
grass-fed mozzarella, and (homegrown) turnip greens
bratwursts with honey mustard, mashed (homegrown) turnips, and organic corn on the cob

mixed veggie hashbrown
(can't remember specific veggies but I just threw in what I had
and then added the shredded potatoes until crisp)

chicken, potatoes, (local) broccoli, carrots, (homegrown) eggs, rice, and duck sauce
(local) porkchop, (homegrown) braised radishes, lima beans, and mashed potatoes
When we don't get to eat dinner until it's bedtime, because we've been working so hard, we scramble some (homegrown) eggs with any veggies we see in the fridge. I also like a couple of slices of homemade gluten free bread drizzled with honey.
{Snacks}
